Effective May 1, 2024, the National Identification Authority (NIA) of Ghana has announced revised fees for select services following the enactment of new regulations by Parliament in February. These changes impact Ghanaians seeking first-time issuance, replacements, or updates to their Ghana Cards.
Key Points of the New Fee Structure:
– First-time registrations at NIA District Offices will remain free of charge, alongside record updates that do not require a new card issuance at both NIA Regional and District offices. This exemption extends to Ghanaians living in the ECOWAS sub-region and those residing outside of Africa.
– For first-time registrations conducted at NIA Premium Centres, applicants will now be charged approximately 310 cedis ($23), while card replacements at these centers will cost around 420 cedis ($31).
– Ghanaians in the ECOWAS sub-region but outside Ghana looking for first-time registration can expect to pay around $55, with record updates including card replacement costing about $27.5.
– Nationality updates will cost approximately 70 cedis at NIA Regional and District offices, with a higher fee of around 365 cedis at Premium Centres.
In addition, the National Communications Authority reminds all Ghanaians to register their SIM cards and link them to their Ghana Card by the end of May 2023 to avoid deactivation. This strategic update in fees and the push for SIM card registration underscore Ghana’s efforts to streamline identification and communication services for its citizens both at home and abroad.
